The mumblings of a Christian autistic husband, dad, IT guy and amateur radio operator - Will Brokenbourgh / AF7EC
No Chaos in Jesus
If you're living in the U.S. you may be pretty stressed out right now. A former President came centimeters away from being killed, our current President is very much facing the ravages of old age and recently announced that he won't seek re-election while the Vice-President is pretty close to being made the primary candidate for President on the Democrat side. Terroristic 'demonstrators' march through the streets calling for murder and our kids and grand-kids are being offered up to the government for sex reassignment! All of this is enough to make people's heads spin and hearts sink!
If you don't have a firm foundation during times like this, it's easy to be completely overwhelmed. Some people get so agitated that they become violent, or depressed or just give up. For example, a recent story tells of an ATV (all-terrain-vehicle) rider purposely running over an elderly man who was putting up presidential candidate lawn signs. The elderly man may not survive because of the violence the perpetrator fell prey to. Under no circumstances is such a thing okay! Please don't! (Update from the future: The elderly man is expected to survive, thankfully!)
Trying to deal with hardship
Life can be very rough. So many pressures, so many responsibilities, so many challenges and
stressors. It might seem like the hits just keep coming with no end in sight. I get it --
most people go through hard times at least at some point in their lives and sometimes the
majority of their lives may seem like one struggle and hardship after another.
Folks may look to food, drugs, alcohol or some other thing to dull the pain, but as anyone who has struggled with addiction knows, those temporary solutions don't address the root problem. Some people may just throw more food, drugs, alcohol at their life's struggles, but it ends just the same. At the end of the day, when the effects of your 'medication' wear off, you still have your struggles, still have your issues staring you in the face.
The one and only true solution
There is one solution to all of life's struggles -- Jesus! You may be thinking "Ah man,
come on!" but it's absolutely true! I have been homeless, addicted to drugs, alcohol and
sex so I know a thing or two about all that. In the days where I was running from and
rebelling against God, I searched high and low for something to comfort me, something
to help me when life was throwing fireballs at me. Absolutely nothing can satisfy
like Jesus can!
But Jesus is not some 'crutch' like many think. Jesus is a loving savior and someone you actually have a relationship with. Like the best friend you could possibly have, if you give your life and heart to him, he's got your back. You can trust Jesus and you can bring your troubles to Jesus. When you give your life to him, you receive the Holy Spirit. When your relationship with Jesus gets deeper, you begin to 'hear' Holy Spirit guiding you and teaching you what you need to know to get through life. You mostly likely won't hear an audible voice, but Holy Spirit still speaks to believers in other very personal ways.
Jesus is not some genie, though. You can't just call on Jesus and he'll rescue you from every single problem in life, though sometimes he does. He's the most powerful and loving friend you can have, and while he doesn't lead you around every storm in life, he walks by your side so you have the strength and peace to walk through the storm. And when you've both gone through it, you gain more peace, more understanding and more perseverance from the experience!
Your choice: chaos or peace
If you want true peace through rough times, if you want a relationship with
your Creator and savior, it's not hard to do. Search your heart and decide that you want
to live for someone who's better than anything or anyone else. Decide if you are willing
to give up things like drugs, extra-marital sex, alcohol, lying, cheating, porn, love
of money, treating people badly and so-on. Decide if you're ready to live a freeing life
in Jesus, turn from your past and ask Jesus to forgive you, give your heart and your life
to him. That's it! No special handshake, ritual or complicated prayer. Most new believers
find a Bible-based church to attend and ask if they can be baptized. If a church tells you
you have to complete some training, a class or something that sounds fishy -- run the other
way! Sometimes it takes a few tries before you find a spirit-filled church. Don't give up!
As it's been said many times before: Faith doesn't make things easy, it makes them possible. Having Jesus as your friend, your savior and your God doesn't make troubled times go away, it makes them possible to go through without losing all hope and your soul being damaged. Don't let current events force you to do something you'll regret -- give all the junk to Jesus and he'll give you his peace, even through the chaos and storms.
God bless you, and thank you for reading!
About me
First and foremost I'm a follower of Jesus Christ. After that, I'm a blessed husband,
father and grandfather. I do remote computer work for a living although it's mostly
part-time. I'm an amateur radio operator - AF7EC. When I'm not working on the endless
list of house and car projects, I like to tinker with electronics, like to listen to
shortwave radio and write software (mostly open-source) in C, C++, Python and Free
Pascal. I usually run Linux as my main operating system but sometimes I'm forced to
endure macOS and Windows 11 for gaming with my son or testing software. Overall, I am
a big nobody, but always willing to share about Jesus and all that God has done for me
and my family.
