Charlie Kirk - A Good Seed Has Fallen
September 13, 2025

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels - plentiful harvest of new lives. - John 12:24 - NLT

On September 10, 2025, I was working remotely on a customer's computer when I accidentally hovered over the news widget on their Windows taskbar. Annoyed that my repair session was being interrupted by an unwelcome news panel, right when I closed it I happened to see that Charlie Kirk had been shot. Because I was in the middle of a stressful and time-sensitive repair, I did stop to pray for him, but then resumed my work.

God loves geeks too!
Why Jesus?

After the repair session was complete, I opened a news website on my own computer to see what happened and how Charlie was doing. I was absolutely gut-punched when I saw that he had died. Frown emoji

What I thought about Charlie Kirk
My introduction to Charlie Kirk was through his YouTube videos. A few years ago my wife had run across Charlie's videos and thought I might enjoy them. I watched a few and really didn't know what to think. Here was this guy talking about patriotism, Jesus and abortion. While all of his opinions seemed to be sound I took exception to his use of coarse joking. I didn't think it was wise or appropriate to talk like that while also professing to be a Christian. I first watched his lecture and college campus Q & A videos then started watching his regular program.

As YouTube started showing more of his videos to me, I started to develop a more complete picture of Charlie and what he stood for. I generally agreed with him on most topics but disagreed with some of the inappropriate things he'd say about other people. I felt these unloving comments were incompatible with being a Christian and even wrote his show about it. Of course I received no reply. After a particularly inappropriate comment he made about someone in the news, I felt it was time to stop watching him. This was in early 2024.

Round 2
After about a year and a half YouTube did its usual "suggest stuff I asked it to hide before" thing. Charlie Kirk started showing up in my suggestions again so I told my wife "I'll give him one more try but if he keeps doing like he did before, I'm hiding him again". While he didn't say as many inappropriate things this time around, he still said some things I disagreed with so I only watched a few of his Q & A and speech videos.

Because for some reason YouTube always shows me mostly low-quality suggestions, I decided to watch a bunch of Charlie's campus discussion videos to pass the time one day. Charlie was usually always calm and patient with those who argued with him. I grew to appreciate Charlie's skill and strength in dealing with combative and abusive people. I saw that he was out there, doing the good work, educating people on the horrors of abortion, correcting falsehoods about gender identity and faith in Jesus Christ. I decided to try to look past the now-less-frequent inappropriate remarks and admired Charlie and what he was working so hard for. He was working mostly for Jesus Christ, working for freedom of speech, working for a better United States. While watching him speak the truth was encouraging, it was tiresome to watch those college campus videos because the people debating him just couldn't grasp what he was giving them.

His death has greatly affected me, and the world
People are dying all around us every day - in our community, our nation and the world. We had just tried to process and heal from the senseless stabbing death of a young Ukrainian immigrant woman by a mentally-ill criminal who had been previously arrested fourteen times - then this. A vibrant and energetic thirty-one year-old dynamo is now gone, and his young wife and two young children have a gaping hole in their lives.

I have never been affected by the news of the death of someone outside my family like Charlie Kirk's. I have been grieving like he was a close friend or family member. I mean, he was a member of the body of Christ, so he was a family member in that respect. Truth be told, I was not a hard-core Charlie Kirk fan nor did I agree with some of the things he said, but as a brother in Christ, and someone who worked so hard to make a positive change to young people and America, I have to give him respect and appreciate his commitment to his mission.

Charlie was hated by those who reject the truth
As I've said before, the devil and his demons are very much real, and they work tirelessly in the unseen spiritual world to corrupt, twist and destroy the good God has done. If you are not grounded firmly in Christ Jesus it is very easy for the devil and his underlings to brainwash you and make you believe lies. Unfortunately so many people have fallen for these lies. They not only reject the truth but end up hating those who proclaim it. If people become obsessed and constantly gorge themselves on the enemy's lies, they can become radical, then they become dangerous. Just look what happened to Jesus - many hated him for telling the truth, and instead of embracing his message, they sentenced him to death. This same thing has happened with countless martyrs and now has happened to Charlie Kirk.

Weakness breeds hatred
When I say 'weakness', I mean someone's mind that has been weakened by the constant diet of deceit and corruption that the devil and demons are feeding a person. I'm not judging! I've been there myself, but thankfully God has rescued me from that! But the person who is drowning in the lies and tricks of the enemy may realize it deep down, but they don't have the strength to fight it and embrace the truth instead. Lies begin to accumlate in one's mind until that person is living those lies. If the lies continue to build up, they lead to hatred, and when hatred grows to a certain point, it becomes dangerous. This has happened so much in our world that those who love God must certainly feel like Lot when he was sick in his heart from the grossness of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Evil's plan backfired

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. - Genesis 50:20 - NLT

On the day Charlie was murdered, my wife reminded me about the scripture of the lone seed (quoted at the beginning of this post). This is so true in this case. A man filled with hatred and evil let that hatred motivate him to scheme and eventually kill. And while many in this world are now sorely missing Charlie, his death is not the end of his ministry. Instead, his death has now set off a huge wave of determination and resolve that is moving across the planet. Those who believe and frequently proclaim the actual truth are now bigger targets, but they also have a bigger boldness. Instead of shrinking in fear, so many have set their faces like flint and are even more determined than before. Evil's celebration will be cut short by the explosion of brave voices crying out, pleading with people to hear and understand the truth - shaking them from their slumber of ignorance.

I never met Charlie Kirk, but I feel like he was a close friend. I have seen so many others who have also felt the same way. Although I disagreed with him on some things, when it came to the things that truly matter, there should be no question that I supported and appreciated his hard work. There was something powerful about Charlie Kirk that touched so many, and that something still lives on today.

God bless you, and thank you for reading! Big smile emoji

About me
First and foremost I'm a follower of Jesus Christ. After that, I'm a blessed husband, father and grandfather. I do remote computer work for a living although it's mostly part-time. I'm an amateur radio operator - AF7EC. When I'm not working on the endless list of house and car projects, I like to tinker with electronics, like to listen to shortwave radio and write software (mostly open-source) in C, C++ and Python. I usually bounce around between macOS, Linux and Windows for support and development work. Overall, I am a big nobody, but always willing to share about Jesus and all that God has done for me and my family.
